A few minutes on stage begin long before the curtain rises. In music, conversations and repetitions that never reach the audience.
Movement begins with an idea
Choreography starts with a question: what do we want this performance to say? Music provides rhythm and atmosphere, but there still needs to be a reason for an entrance, a change of direction, a silence and an ending.
The same movement can feel entirely different depending on the space, the lighting and the people performing it. An idea has to move through bodies and through a rehearsal room, rather than remain in someone’s head.
Rehearsal is a place for decisions
Rehearsal tests what looked simple on paper. Is there enough time to change positions? Can an important moment be seen from the back row? Does a transition still make sense when a camera enters the picture?
Repetition is about more than remembering steps. It allows a team to develop a shared sense of time, space and attention. Sometimes a glance or a moment of stillness makes the biggest difference.
A performance is built together
Performers, choreography, direction, music, costume, lighting and the technical team depend on one another. A good idea becomes a good performance when those elements work together.
The audience does not need to know how often something was repeated. They need to be able to follow and feel what is happening in front of them. That is the moment when the work behind the scenes finds its purpose.
